How to pray for your school

Four things to pray for at every school. You'll find them in your prayer folder too.

  • Peace

Calm classrooms, safe hallways and healthy friendships.

Pray: Lord, let your peace fill every classroom and hallway.

  • Protection

Physical, emotional and spiritual protection for every student and staff member.

Pray: Keep every student and staff member safe today.

  • Teachers and leaders

Wisdom, patience and strength for the principal and staff.

Pray: Give the principal and teachers wisdom, patience and strength.

  • Light

That the peace of God would be felt on this campus.

Pray: Let your light and love be felt on this campus.

Praying by name

A school is made of people. Pray for them one by one. The principal's name, and often the staff, are on the school's website.

Write the names on your prayer card and keep it where you'll see it each day.

  • Seek the peace of the city... and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

    Jeremiah 29:7
  • And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

    Isaiah 54:13
  • He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

    Psalm 91:11
  • The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

    Psalm 121:8
  • If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

    James 1:5
  • Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

    John 14:27
  • For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

    2 Timothy 1:7
  • Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

    Philippians 4:6

Prayer walk guide

A prayer walk is just what it sounds like: walking around a school and praying for it as you go. Here's how we do it.

What to bring

  • Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water
  • A hat or sunscreen on sunny mornings
  • Your prayer card, or this page on your phone
  • The names of the people you're praying for
  • A friend: we always walk in twos or more

How a walk works

  1. Meet your group at the time and place on the events calendar.
  2. Your leader opens in prayer and shares the route.
  3. Walk the public sidewalks around the school, praying quietly as you go.
  4. Gather at the end to pray together and share what you noticed.

Safety and respect

We are guests in these neighborhoods. Every walk follows these rules.

  • Stay on public sidewalks.
  • Never enter a campus or its grounds without permission.
  • Don't approach, talk to or photograph students.
  • Pray quietly, in your heart or in a low voice.
  • Be friendly to staff and neighbors. A smile and a wave go a long way.
  • Go with at least one other person.
  • Follow your district leader's directions.

A prayer you can pray today

Pray it as written, or use it as a start and add the names you know.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this school and for every person in it.

Watch over the students as they come and go today. Keep them safe in body, mind and spirit, and guard this school from every evil.

Give the principal, the teachers and the staff wisdom, patience and strength. Help them to know they are seen and loved.

Bring your peace to the classrooms, the hallways and the playground. Let your light shine here, and let every family feel your care.

In Jesus' name, amen.
